100th post GIVEAWAY!

For our 100th post (took us long enough to get there, I'll blog more, I promise) we decided to give a little gift to one of our readers. This blog isn't big enough for companies to give us free things to give away, so we bought it ourselves. We think you'll really love it, because we do! Can you guess?

Hint #1: It has to do with food and cooking (duh!).

Hint #2: It had a pretty big role in our dating/food life (see our very first post).

Figured it out yet?? No? Okay, we'll tell you...

It's an autographed copy of The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner!! Learn more about The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner and Liz Edmunds here. And check out the new app where you can make your own "Nanny Meal Plan," there's a lot more of Liz's recipes online!
The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner: Easy Family Meals for Every Day of the Week

We love this cook book and want to share it with you! Already have a copy? No problem! You can give it as a gift!

You can enter to win this giveaway up to three (3) times. Here's how:

1. For one entry, leave your name in a comment (if you're worried about leaving your whole name, first name and last initial will work).
: : For example:
Jane Doe

-OR- Jane D.

2. For a second entry, leave a comment telling us a favorite recipe you think we should try, favorite restaurant we should visit (or one you haven't been to that you want us to try), OR a kitchen/food tip. Make sure to leave your name!
: : For example:
Jane Doe. Try my special chicken! Here's the recipe: [recipe here]
-OR- Jane D. You've got to try New Thai Cafe on 7800 South!
-OR- Freeze peeled ginger in a ziploc bag if you don't use it all. It's a lot easier to grate when it's frozen! Jane Doe

3. For a THIRD entry (we're making this too easy, right?!), "follow" our blog with Google. This is different than adding us to your Google Reader or RSS feed. Go to our blog, scroll down, and on the right hand side you'll see the "Follow" button (if you're already a follower, you don't have to do this part). Then leave us a comment stating your name and that you follow us. We'll check to see if you're a follower.
: : For example:
Jane Doe- follow!

So that's easy enough, right? Just to clarify, you need to leave three DIFFERENT comments to be entered 3 times, so don't put all the info in one comment. Please note that your comments might not show up right away, we have to "approve" them first. We will delete over three comments per person.

The winner will be chosen by random.org on TUESDAY, JUNE 1st! We'll post the winner and they'll have three days to email us their contact info. You've got 12 days! Get to it!

More recipes coming soon!

Jennifer (Schieving) McDaniel. My go-to recipe when I want tasty food but don't have a lot of time:

http://www.barbarabakes.com/2009/09/spicy-chicken-soup.html

You can put it together the night before, turn on the crock pot in the morning, and come home from work to happiness. I'll freeze the extra in 1 cup portions so that I can take it for lunches as well.

Here are my 2 of 3 entry submissions. (Following Blog after this comment.)

My name is Nicolle M. I work with Stewart.

My tip is similar to your example: I love to use Chipotle peppers in adobo, but they come in cans and I can never use them all in one receipe. I have started freezing them and when I need to add some smokey spice in a dish I grate or chop of a peice and put the rest back in the freezer. Saves time and money!

I now a follower of your blog.

My tip: I love using Chipotle peppers in Adobo, but they come in a can and I can never use them all, so I've started freezing them in a plastic baggie. When I need to add some spice to a dish I cut off a piece or even grate it right in and then throw the rest back into the freezer. Saves time and money!

So I was thinking about a restaurant that you should try and I have a few that I really want to try, but I think you should go to Biaggi Restorante Italiano. I have heard good things about it, but I have not made it there yet.

Mark Merrill -

You've got to try Gloria's Little Italy in downtown Provo. Very good Italian. It's on Center St. and University Ave. (right across from Los Hermanos).

Does it count if I've left my name on lots of comments on previous posts or do I have to go back and make another comment?

Also, here's my cooking tip: Whenever I buy onions or green peppers, I buy a few and cut them all up at once. Then I freeze whatever I'm not using that day (in a good Ziploc freezer bag...otherwise your whole freezer and fridge will smell like onions) and use the rest as needed. They work well in any cooked recipe, but I wouldn't do it for something like a fajita or another dish where you want the peppers to still be a little crisp and fresh. Chili, sweet & sour meatballs, soups...that sort of stuff.

Hi Lindsey, I work with Stew. I too love to cook good food for the body and soul. It must be healthy! I'm always looking for good recipes with down to earth, useful ingredients. I hear Stew talking about foods you've made together and it peaked my interest enough to visit your blog. I'm hooked! Your book giveaway sounds like a match made in heaven for bridging a divided family with good food and conversation. I made this salad last Sunday for my husband's birthday dinner. It was so refreshing! I'd be interested to know your thoughts. Karleen B

Mandarin Spinach Salad...

Here's a delicious salad with lots of color, and a zesty flare:
1 (10-oz.) bag fresh spinach
1 (11-oz.) can mandarin oranges, drained
2 or 3 green onions, chopped
8 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
1 large avocado, cut into slices
1/2 to 1 pound cherry tomatoes, halved
Dressing:
1/2 tsp. grated orange rind
1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Combine dressing ingredients and mix well. Toss salad ingredients together with dressing and serve.

It took me long enough to leave a comment! Suzi Hammond. I heart your burbon chicken. YUM. We make it about once a week. The only kitchen tip I have is when you frost sugar cookies it's a lot easier to put the frosting in a zip lock bag and cutting off the tip than to use a knife or spoon.

This is my FAVORITE recipe right now. I've made it several times in a row because I can't get enough...

http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/02/crispy-black-bean-tacos-with-feta-and-slaw/

Here's some of my tweaks that I thought made it soooo good.

1) I added seasoned ground beef
2) I added bean sprouts to the cole slaw...so crunchy and delishes (and I recommend using chopped cabbage and not store bought cole slaw mix)
3) I didn't add salsa because I thought it would drown out the subtle tangy flavors...no tomatoes or salsa...different but sooooo good.
4) The feta might seem strange but the flavors go so well together.
5) The soft crispy/chewy tortillas are so good with these tacos.

hope you'll try them.

Beer is my secret ingredient for almost every dish. I use it to either replace water or chicken stock. I especially like to use flavored beers or heffewizen for extra citrus taste.

Hi! This is Staci Meacham. :)

This is one of my most favorite recipes. Although it is a chili, it uses turkey instead of beef so it's a healthier option. Not to mention that it's chock full of proteins, veggies, etc. It's a "dump everything in the pantry and simmer" recipe. I hope you LOVE it! (oh, i have no idea what hominy is, or where to buy it. So we use black beans instead---yum!)

KOBE japanese restaurant near SCL. it's pricey ($15/chef sushi specialty, which was DELICIOUS, but not at all filling), but the chef is maybe the most adorable japanese man I've ever met, and it was a great experience full of incredible food. We're definitely going back.
